Email Communications Specialist

The Email Marketing Specialist is responsible for the planning and execution of trigger email programs and email marketing campaigns. This person is responsible for creating persuasive programs that convert prospects into customers, as well as retain existing customers through campaigns that are relevant, timely and aggressively asking for business. The Email Marketing Specialist will be responsible for building and maintaining the email database.


  • Design email marketing calendar and create email marketing campaigns to promote products or services
  • Coordinate with various departments on production and deployment of campaigns
  • Validate email mockups, HTML templates and landing pages to ensure they meet the client's objectives
  • Setup and test email prior to deployment on the platform to ensure messages are sent in proper form and template; proofread emails for clarity, grammar and spelling
  • Ensure marketing message is conveyed clearly and delivered properly to prospects
  • Ensure timely creation and sending of planned email marketing campaigns, and manage the trafficking and targeting of graphical messages within the emails
  • Lead coupon strategy for retail client campaigns
  • Ensure messages are mobile-friendly
  • Purge non-deliverable email addresses and opt-outs
  • Track and analyze direct and interactive marketing campaigns
  • Use statistical analysis and reports to create campaigns
  • Analyze and report on email campaign results and KPIs, highlighting successes, trends and opportunities; maintain formal process to update and share findings with marketing team and other stakeholders
  • Understand and monitor the competitive landscape for customer email activities and strategies, and provide insight and recommendations to drive the company business forward as a leader-in-class


  • Provide clear and concise written and verbal instructions on all internal forms of communication
  • Enforce internal processes and ensure efficiencies and productivity
  • Communicate with and give presentations to internal and external teams as necessary

Training and Development

  • Well-rounded marketing technologist familiar with industry best practices (inbound/outbound marketing, demand generation, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and presentation
  • Ability to understand workflow processes and systems within a marketing/sales cycle
  • Knowledge of key email fundamentals; CAN-SPAM compliance, deliverability, spam complaint rates, A/B split testing, etc.
  • General understanding of email marketing and experience managing retail email programs with high levels of email segmentation and personalization, and ability to formulate test plans and report on findings
  • General understanding of HTML coding/email assets and the ability to troubleshoot with last-minute changes
  • Ability to interface with departmental members and multiple cross-functional partners
  • Good project management skills, with ability to handle trafficking and execution of multiple projects
  • Candidate must have strong analytical skills, must be organized, detail-oriented, a multi-tasker and able to meet daily deadlines


  • 3+ years marketing experience ideally in the fields of email, coupon, CRM or loyalty marketing 
  • B.A., or equivalent education and/or work experience, with emphasis on marketing, design, advertising or digital project management
