Account Manager, PR

The Account Manager, Public Relations will serve as the day-to-day client contact, managing the client’s public relations account activities, expectations and budget. This person will bring public relations programs to life from plan to execution, working with account supervisors and the account director in strategic planning, and build and maintain positive relationships and rapport with clients, media, agency colleagues and vendors.



  • Act as daily liaison between the agency and client, accurately interpreting and articulating client needs
  • Develop content for public relations support materials, and serve as primary or secondary media relations contact
  • Execute tactics of overall public relations plans, staying up to date on the status of all projects and accounts
  • Lead the planning and execution for client events, such as trade shows and key stakeholder events
  • Issue internal and client contact reports as needed in order to track performance and project objectives
  • Manage the monthly billing process, including estimating and tracking expenses, and communicating deviations and updates to clients and account team as needed
  • Maintain a thorough and current knowledge of client business. This involves understanding the client's products, market, distribution, trends and organization history, as well as internal dynamics and challenges
  • Assess all marketing tools available and related to the client’s business and effectively apply them as appropriate
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned from time to time to meet the changing needs of the agency



  • Knowledge and experience in newswriting and pitching stories to media, with a successful media placement track record
  • Community manager experience and up-to-date knowledge of all social media channels
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style
  • Excellent writing, communication and client management skills
  • Experience in successfully identifying and managing vendor relationships
  • Ability to organize and manage complex, multifaceted projects and programs
  • Ability to quickly learn and master a new business and market
  • Confident, clear, and persuasive presentation skills, both in writing and in person  
  • Ability to manage day-to-day account activities and at times represent the agency without general supervision
  • Ability to understand and implement the strategic marketing and communications planning process
  • Experience in building and maintaining positive relationships with clients and agency colleagues
  • Careful attention to detail

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or related area of study
  • Minimum of 3 years' agency experience in public relations, communications, marketing, or related experience on the client side
  • Agriculture experience preferred, but not required
