Associate Media Director

The Associate Media Director’s role is to provide the highest level of media leadership on a client’s business on a day-to-day basis. This involves having expertise in all forms of media.  A successful AMD must be an effective communicator and be able to work with and lead a group in a team environment. The AMD must foster a strong level of integration within the media department as well as across the agency and act as a leader within the agency, promoting agency culture and enhancing team motivation.  Paramount to this role, is the ability to think strategically about the client’s business and elevate conversations with senior level clients; thinking about the business objectives and implications beyond the campaign.

RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Media Planning

  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, clients and vendors.
  • Mentor junior talent at agency and help pave processes and best practices for media within Periscope.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership and innovation and recommend new/innovation strategies for the client, when appropriate
  • Keep abreast of industry trends that may impact a client’s business
  • Be well versed in all aspects and details of the campaign programs from concept to executional details
  • Lead team in all areas of planning and buying media, including assisting in developing higher level strategy, building rationale for clients, and planning details.
  • Be a steward of the larger campaign strategy and analytics plan.
  • Be collaborative resource for creative on media creative opportunities.
  • Educate account management team on media best practices, help field client requests and coordinate inter-departmental practices.
  • Assure agency work meets, or exceeds, client’s and agency’s quality standards, is presented in a professional manner, is delivered in a timely fashion, and within the client’s budget.
  • Work with account managers to implement, monitor and optimize initiatives
  • Accountable for preparation and presentation of media recommendations including strategic framework, tactical plan, implementation and analytical insights

Communication

  • Spearhead cross-departmental communication, processes, best practices, etc.
  • Facilitate and ensure the media process is adhered to, and follow through on all key deadlines for plans delivery to internal, client, and vendor audiences.
  • Participate in internal presentations to the media group or other agency constituents as it pertains to trends or information that would impact our clients or the agency business.
  • Keep all members of account teams informed of media opportunities or challenges that could impact the client budget and goals of the campaign.
  • Keep Director current on issues that may affect the client-agency relationship, especially any problems or indications of dissatisfaction with media performance that may affect ability to meet or exceed stated objectives and goals.

Business Development

  • Assist or lead in the preparation and presentation of new business pitches as requested by Director.
  • Represent the agency’s mission, capabilities and goals accurately to assigned clients, business development prospects and other potential industry allies (i.e. vendors, peers, etc.).
  • Take all appropriate action to meet or exceed expected planning goals.  

Financial/Administrative

  • Work with personnel to ensure accuracy in client billing and resolve/reconcile invoice problems.
  • Maintain high level of professionalism in all internal and external communication including e-mail and voicemail correspondence, etc.
  • Record expenses and billable time completely and accurately on a weekly basis.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong understanding of all media types including TV, radio, print, outdoor, digital, search and social.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high stress situations with effective results.
  • Flexibility to work/communicate effectively with different types of people.
  • Strong client management, negotiation and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office software.
  • Solid understanding of Doubleclick, Google Ad Words, Comscore or Nielsen NetRatings data.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to deal with complex numerical situations or documents.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Creative problem solving and decision-making skills; excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • 8+ years in marketing communications/advertising agency, in-house client media department or media organization (agency preferred).
  • College degree; emphasis in communications or advertising preferred
