Retail Team: Packaging Execution

We love retail. We especially love packaging. We understand that every product on a shelf needs a package, and that package needs to help the consumer make a purchase. Also, we know that every package is a statement for its brand, and owned brands for retailers (our clients) drive their business.

Client: Walgreens

  • This Walgreens Account Manager role will own brand management across Walgreens’ owned brand portfolio. They will be a brand ambassador for how the brands are executed onto every single package that sits on a shelf in a Walgreens store, while being a task-master in an established packaging execution process. They will be detail-driven and find satisfaction in owning projects from start to finish.
  • Daily communication with Walgreens client, but also some direct contact with product vendors whose items for which we are creating packaging designs
  • Will become an expert in item details for all assigned product categories: the strategies for communication hierarchies for those particular categories, and the competitive landscape that exists in the market
  • Take an active role leading the creation of a package all the way from the early concepting phases, working side by side with the design team, to the final production execution of each individual item, working side by side with the production & project management team
  • Examples of detailed steps this role will own:
    • Develop creative briefs and ensure Walgreens brand team alignment, with the support of Account Supervisor and Account Director
    • Review vendor-submitted materials
    • Kick off concepting with the design team, and participate in prepping client presentations
    • Present concepts to clients, and discuss opportunities for future rounds
    • Perform detailed reviews at the item level once all files are built, looking for consistency and proper brand execution
    • Coordinate conversations between all reviewers (internal + client + product vendor) to gain alignment
    • Gain understanding (this can be taught) of print and production details in order to support brand consistency across multiple categories and packaging types
    • Work with project management to ensure milestones are hit and timelines are maintained
    • Work with accounting team to review invoicing to ensure all of Periscope’s work is accurately assessed
  • Build working relationships with appropriate client personnel who interface with the agency
  • Master the art of client communication and know how to keep clients in sync with day-to-day activities, so there are no surprises
  • Seamlessly provide the right information to the right people at the right time
  • Constantly maintain a source of truth: written records of all directions, scope of work documents, recommendations, meetings, client decisions or approvals, etc.
  • Effectively articulate directions from Account Leadership to the rest of the internal teams

We are nerdy about packaging details, but truly believe there is nothing more satisfying than walking into one of the 8,000+ Walgreens stores across the country and seeing the work you have helped lead.

  • College graduate
  • 3-5 years in marketing, communications, or advertising in agency or client organization (agency preferred), or equivalent
  • Organization, attention to detail and follow-up skills are incredibly important
  • Ability to take direction and have the confidence to move things forward
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, creative environment with changing needs and requirements
